Sageworks has published a book designed to provide strategies for firms to add value beyond their technical skills. Called "Next-Level Accountants: Your guide to growing a firm of trusted advisors", the publication provides advice from experts in firm strategy, compensation, marketing, client relations, client retention and technology.

Thomas D. Ziff, a former CPA who operated a firm in Atlanta, Ga., has been sentenced to seven months in prison for tax fraud. Ziff, who pleaded guilty to the charge in February which stemmed from his theft of about $300,000 from a trust associated with a client's will.

Wolters Kluwer has reported that revenue increased 2 percent for the first quarter ended March 31; an increase of 3 percent on an organic basis. The company also said it experienced a 1 percent positive impact from the strengthening of the U.S. dollar.
