The tax services chain says the product will also offer early detection of fraudulent returns submitted through H&R Block and expert guidance and support from H&R Block restoration specialists. ID Shield will provide a tax eFile notification if a customer's information is detected on another tax return filed through H&R Block. Block is also offering a once-a-year, pre-tax-season scan to detect if problems already exist.
The coverage applies only to ID theft involving an individual federal tax return, not other forms of ID theft. It does not cover a taxpayer's defendants.
Block is offering the service for $29.95 when purchased separately online or for $20 if purchased with its Peace of Mind service, which it describes as a warranty-like product for clients worried about the potential of an IRS audit.
