A federal court has been ask to permanently bar two South Carolina residents from preparing federal income tax returns for others. The Justice Department made the request in a federal court in Florence, S.C., in seeking an injunction to bar Susann Allen of Darlington County, S.C., and Rachel D. Watson of Florence County, S.C.

Intuit has been testing a program that would enable small and medium businesses to get loans. Intuit is stepping into the process to help banks judge the creditworthiness of their customers. CEO Brad Smith described the test last week, but provided few details about how the program works.

No one expects anything from state and local government other than more aggressive efforts to collect sales-and-use taxes from businesses operating within their jurisdictions. With taxation of Internet sales expected to become a reality at the state and federal levels, companies are going to need tools to handle the increased scrutiny.
