Rippling Expands EOR Program 2
Rippling has expanded its Employer of Record program to eight new countries. The change is part of the latest monthly release of the office application.
With EOR, a user can establish a legal entity in a country outside the United States, giving the user the ability to hire and pay employees in other countries. The latest additions are Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, the Philippines, Switzerland and Turkey.
In addition, Rippling is providing hourly workers with a weekly break down of pay on paystubs so they can see hours worked, including overtime, for each of the weeks included in the pay period.
Users can now down payroll comparison data as a CSV file. Rippling says it has also provided more efficient time-entry CSV imports for Time an Attendance since users can automatically reconcile timestamps based on the employee’s timezone and
filter down to a specific set of imported entries and delete only those
They can also import thousands of entries in seconds, versus 30 minutes.

A New Jersey accountant who acted as an outside auditor for a Costa Rican firm faces additional charges for his part in an alleged $670 million fraud. Jorge Castillo, 56, an inactive CPA, and Minor Vargas Calvo, 60, president of Costa Rican-based Provident Capital Indemnity, were hit with charges this month under a superseding indictment.

CCH has introduced ProSystem fx Knowledge Coach for Comps & Reviews, an application that is designed for firms that do not perform audits. Like the version for audits, the new Knowledge Coach offers real-time diagnostics and an extensive library of workpapers and tools.
Thomson to Drop Divisions
Thomson Reuters says it plans to disband its divisional structure and transition to what it termed "a set of focused business units." It will make that change in 2012 and eliminate its Markets and Professional divisions. The company's Tax & Accounting business falls under the Professional Division.
Court Nixes Shelter KPMG Sold to Wells Fargo

A federal court has disallowed a more-than-$80-million tax refund claim filed by a subsidiary of Wells Fargo & Co. Judge John R. Tunheim concluded that claim stemmed from a sham tax shelter that the bank had purchased from KPMG for $3 million.The case was one of three that the United States won before three different federal judges on the same day.

The American Institute of CPAs has expressed its unhappiness with the failure of the Financial Accounting Foundation to support the creation of a board to establish GAAP standards for privately held companies. A statement from Barry Melancon, CEO of the AICPA cited the widespread support generated for those standards that had been communicated to FAF.

U.S. Seeks to Shut Down N.J. Preparer

The Department of Justice has sued a Newark, N.J.-based tax preparer who it alleges falsified reported income and listed fake dependents so his customers could claim the maximum earned income tax credit. The agency seeks to bar Luvander Hollaway from preparer federal tax returns for others.
Bloomberg Completes BNA Purchase

Bloomberg has completed its acquisition of The Bureau of National Affairs in a cash tender deal worth about $1 billion. BNA is now a stand-alone, wholly-owned subsidiary of Bloomberg and is part of the Bloomberg Industry Verticals Group.

Gilman Loss Grows on Revenue Drop

Financial planning firm GilmanCioccia reported a $1.8- million loss for the year ended June 30, up from the $1.6 million in red ink the prior year. Revenue for fiscal 2011 was $41.5 million, down 4.2 percent from $43.3 million in 2010.

Lower increases in the value of their pension plans led to a drop in overall compensation for three top executives of Automatic Data Processing. That included CEO Gary Butler who saw his pay decline to $8.9 million for fiscal 2011, down from $9.1 million the prior year.
