The American Institute of CPAs is offering CPAs who perform single audits and employee benefit plan audits the ability to earn intermediate- and advanced-level certificates. The AICPA says the certificate program is designed to help auditors improve and demonstrate competency and quality when conducting these specialized engagements.

Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting has added 900 taxability groups to SureTax. The expansion adds to a line that includes CCH SureTax Energy and CCH SureTax Communications and turns the SureTax line into a platform the company said.

Two tax preparers who filed phony returns for prison inmates have drawn multi-year sentences. Kamal J. James aka Bro Messiah Aziz El, 34, of Seaford, Del., drew a nine-year prison term, and Crystal G. Hawkins aka Sis. Crystal Gabri El, 39, of Laurel, Del., four years for their role in the fraud.
