There is no such thing as the single best portable scanner for accountants. After months of research, and evaluation of scanners from six companies, our determination is that accountants need to use three different portable scanners, depending on the types of engagements they perform and the needs of their clients.

Of all of the tools available to accountants, one of the least appreciated is budgeting software. As planning and budgeting solutions have evolved, the focus has been largely on enhancements that streamline and simplify the processes of analyzing current performance, forecasting future performance and reconciling the two in some manner that will enable managers to discern how best to meet the goals of the organization.

The shift is underway to meld document management – the traditional process of managing source documents and client files – with workflow management. The result has been a burst of innovations, updates and new entrants to the marketplace for firm management.
