AICPA Nixes Voluntary Preparer Regulation

The American Institute of CPAs is opposing a plan for voluntary tax preparer regulation by the Internal Revenue Service. The organization, in a letter to Commissioner John Koskinen this week, urged the IRS to use tools already under its control, including the Preparer Tax Identification Number, for ensuring better preparer performance and detection of fraud and incompetence.
SEC Bars CPA Who Held Client's Markers

A former Deloitte partner who defaulted on $110,000 in casino markers has been barred from practice before the Securities and Exchange Commission. The agency said James T. Adams, 62, had markers of more than $100,000 from the client several times while he was chief risk officer for the firm's D&T subsidiary, and visited the casino while he was an advisory partner on D&T's attest engagements for the casino.
