Rippling Expands EOR Program 2

Rippling has expanded its Employer of Record program to eight new countries. The change is part of the latest monthly release of the office application.
With EOR, a user can establish a legal entity in a country outside the United States, giving the user the ability to hire and pay employees in other countries. The latest additions are Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, the Philippines, Switzerland and Turkey.
In addition, Rippling is providing hourly workers with a weekly break down of pay on paystubs so they can see hours worked, including overtime, for each of the weeks included in the pay period.
Users can now down payroll comparison data as a CSV file. Rippling says it has also provided more efficient time-entry CSV imports for Time an Attendance since users can automatically reconcile timestamps based on the employee’s timezone and
filter down to a specific set of imported entries and delete only those
They can also import thousands of entries in seconds, versus 30 minutes.

A New Jersey tax preparer has been permanently barred from preparing federal tax returns for others. Carmen Gonzalez was barred this week as the result of a civil injunction issued in a federal court. Gonzalez consented to the action without admitting wrongdoing. Read more...
CCH Adds Tier to Reseller Program

CCH has enhanced its Partner Program for VARs that handle the company's CorpSystem sales-and-use tax software, adding a new designation of preferred VARs.These value-added resellers get different benefits than resellers at the basic level. The company says there are "more options from the entire portfolio of CCH indirect tax solutions".

Thomson Buys Emochila

Thomson Reuters has acquired San Francisco-based Emochila, which designs websites for tax and accounting firms. Terms were not disclosed. Thomson said that Emochila's technology and expertise would be used to enhance its web services products, particuarly Web Builder CS and would be integrated into the CS Professional Suite.
Seven Charged in $120M Tax Fraud

Seven individuals have been charged for their alleged role in a scheme that resulted in the request for more than $120 million in fraudulent returns. The Justice Department took the action against individuals who operated nationally in getting returns filed for at least 180 clients from 30 states. More than 380 returns were filed, primarily for tax year 2008, the department alleges.

Intuit has spent two years of promoting a practice management system for accountants that hasn't hit the market as a final product. And this week, it was announced that BigTime Software is going to embed its core time, billing and practice management functionality into Intuit's yet-to-be-fulfilled development for in that arena. The Intuit product was supposed to hit the market in May, but instead it moved into a second phase and the product's name went away with Intuit's decision to drop the ProLine brand.

Block Loss Widens on Charges

The results reflected after-tax charges of $8 million related to the company's dropping its ExpressTax business, along with increased litigation costs in its Tax Services operation. Revenue rose to $129.2 million, an increase of 8 percent. The company also noted it completed the sale of RSM McGladrey to McGladrey & Pullen on November 30.

Tom Glocer's position as CEO of Thomson Reuters had seemed shaky since problems with the company's former markets division were widely publicized earlier this year. And the company has announced that he will retire and be succeeded on January 1 by James C. Smith, currently the company's COO. The company also announced a new organizational structure that replaces its recently abolished division.

Xero, which makes web-based accounting applications for small businesses, has gotten a lot of buzz in the American market but isn't yet a force here. However, the New Zealand company says it is ramping up infrastructure to support 1 million end users. That came as it narrowed its loss while more than doubling revenue for the six months ended September 30.
Preparer Gets Three Years for Fraud

Washington D.C.-based tax prepared has been sentenced to three years in prison for willfully aiding and assisting in the preparation of a false income tax return for 2004. Onuoha "Iggy" Nwokoro was also ordered to pay $510,389 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service.
