Rippling Expands EOR Program 2

 Rippling has expanded its Employer of Record program to eight new countries. The change is part of the latest monthly release of the office application.

With EOR, a user can establish a legal entity in a country outside the United States, giving the user the ability to hire and pay employees in other countries. The latest additions are Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Israel, New Zealand, the Philippines, Switzerland and Turkey.

In addition, Rippling is providing hourly workers with a weekly break down of pay on paystubs so they can see hours worked, including overtime, for each of the weeks included in the pay period.

Users can now down payroll comparison data as a CSV file. Rippling says it has also provided more efficient time-entry CSV imports for Time an Attendance since users can automatically reconcile timestamps based on the employee’s timezone and

filter down to a specific set of imported entries and delete only those 

They can also import thousands of entries in seconds, versus 30 minutes.

CPA Faces Five Years In Refund Fraud

doj logoA Los Angeles, Calf.-based CPA has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States. Accountant and tax preparer, Masood Chotoni, entered the plea which stemmed from charges that he filed returns using names and Social Security numbers of deceased taxpayers. He faces a maximum five years in prison and $250,000 fine. Read more...

San Antonio Preparers Draw Ban

Pete Escalante Gutierrez and Jeanette Gutierrez of San Antonio, Texas, have been permanently barred from preparing federal tax returns for others. A federal court took the actions against the two this week and although the injunction permits four companies they own to continue to operate, although the Gutierrezes must sell their interests them. SEC: KPMG Duo Rubber Stamped Audit

KPMG logoThe Securities and Exchange Commission has accused two KPMG auditors of rubber-stamping an audit of a failed Nebraska-based bank that hid millions of dollars in loan losses from investors during the financial crisis. The SEC says KPMG partner, John J. Aesoph, and senior manager, Darren M. Bennett, "relied on stale information and management's representations" in issuing unqualified opinions of TierOne Bank's 2008 financial statements and internal controls over its financial reporting. Intuit’s Cook Sells $37.4M Shares

Scott Cook, IntuitIntuit founder Scott Cook closed out 2012 by selling a bit more than $37.4 million in the company's stock during the second half of December. For Cook, it was the largest amount of Intuit stock sold in a single month in more than two years. The largest block was 266,666 shares sold on December 16 for $16.5 million.

TaxWorks Beset by Software Woes

 Albert Haab, CPA, EA, Users of TaxWorks are flaying the company over its new tax preparation software. But whether problems are widespread or just a reaction by an installed base faced with a dramatically changed product remains to be seen. In comments on a blog on the TaxWorks website, several preparers complained they cannot print organizers, while some had trouble installing the software. The gripes are coming from new users and from practitioners who have bought the program for decades.
