Brad Smith who has held the job of CEO of Intuit since January 2008, will retire at the end of the year. He will be replaced on January 1 by Sasan Goodarzi, EVP and GM of Intuit’s Small Business and Self-Employed Group.Read more...

Thomson Reuters is preparing a limited release of its first Onvio Tax module. The company plans to hit the market by the end of the year with a 1041 module, released to what the company termed "a very small group of firms" with all entities ready for a tax season test.Read more...

Two Memphis, Tenn., area residents, who were partners in a former Mo' Money Taxes tax store, have received prison sentences. Jeremy Blanchard and Erik Pittman, both 35-year-old Memphis residents, this week drew the terms for filing numerous phony individual tax returns. The Mo Money chain was ordered shut down in September 2013 after being accused of systematically preparing fraudulent returns.Read more...

WASHINGTON - The Internal Revenue Service has begun notifying about 1 million tax return preparers to remind them they must use Preparer Tax Identification Numbers on all federal returns starting January 1. The IRS intends to send about 125,000 notification letters each week for eight weeks, based on the list of preparers who currently have PTINs.Read more...
