Avalara has hired Greg Stivers as the sales tax company's first SVP of sales. Stivers comes to Avalara from Concur, where he worked as SVP of client development from July 2014 until joining Avalara job this month. The position is a new one for the software company.

The application from PIEtech will be used in three CLA business lines wealth advisory, outsourcing and audit, tax and consulting offering financial planning and investment advisory services through CLA Wealth Advisors.

After accepting the Democratic nomination for New Jersey governor earlier this month, gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy reiterated his pledge to raise the state's minimum wage to $15 if elected this coming November. The position, and its implications for small business, could be a sticking point in the state election as the Republican gubernatorial candidate, Lieutenant Governor Kim Guadagno, is decidedly against raising the wage.

BDO International Ltd. has named Keith Farlinger as CEO. Effective November 1, he will succeed Martin van Roekel. Farlinger is the former CEO of BDO Canada and currently serves as CEO of the Americas region on the BDO Global Leadership Team.

Bill Cobb, the CEO of H&R Block will leave the tax services company on July 31. He will by replaced by general counsel and chief administrative officer, Tom Gerke, who will serve as interim president and CEO. The board of directors will consider both internal and external candidates.
