Abila Takes MIP to the Web

Abila is readying the introduction of MIP Advance, an Internet-version of the long-marketed fund accounting package. The roll out begins in July with elements suited for CFPs and executive stakeholders of nonprofits organizations. The first elements include executive dashboarding, quick financial reports and quick journal voucher entry.
Texas Preparer Draws 30-Month Sentence

Michelle A. Morin, a tax preparer based in Laredo, Texas, has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for filing phony tax returns. Morin also was ordered to undergo a year of supervised release and pay $20,146 in restitution to the Internal Revenue Service. She was accused of causing the government to lose more than $228,000 in taxes through the operation of her Discount Tax Service.
AICPA Offers Six-Point Audit Plan

The American Institute of CPAs has issued a Six-Point Plan to Improve Audits, which the organization says is part of its effort to drive higher audit performance. The plan concentrates on financial statement audits for American private companies, employee benefit plans and governmental entities.
