Many companies that sell product have an end-of-quarter rush to boost revenue. That model is no longer valid with cloud companies, according to NetSuite CFO Ron Gill. Because revenue is recognized bit-by-bit over the lifetime of a subscription, it is difficult to move the quarter with an ending flurry of sales, he told attendees at NetSuite's SuiteWorld conference.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has restored the ability of Anthony J. Price, audit partner with KMJ Corbin & Co. to practice before that body. Corbin was barred from practicing before the SEC in September 2010 for his role in the audits and reviews of the financial statements of Home Solutions of America.

Many CPAs in public practice are well acquainted with professional handbooks, such as the GAAP Guide or the Master Tax Guide. When it comes to client continuity, however, there is no stock, published guidebook for a topic that is so essential for CPA firms. Much like any of the favorite professional manuals, a guide to client continuity has to be used and not just produced and studied. It should contain core provisions for maintaining and building quality relationships, but should also have personal and individual inserts that reflect the personality and culture of the firm.

Michael Alter, long-time president of SurePayroll, has taken a position as CEO of the Tie Bar, which designs, manufactures and markets low-cost men's neckties. Alter, who had been president of SurePayroll since November 2003, took the new job this month.
