IRS Rolls Out Post-Appeals Program

A program of post-Appeals mediation has been rolled out nationally by the Internal Revenue Service. The IRS has expanded what had been a pilot program, which was started in December 2008, for Offer in Compromise and Trust Fund Recovery Penalty cases. Aimed at resolving disputes after unsuccessful negotiations with the IRS Office of Appeals, it is available for both factual and legal issues.

Vada Hill, who has held top marketing jobs at Fannie Mae and Taco Bell, has been named chief marketing officer by Jackson Hewitt Tax Service. It is the latest in a series of executive changes at the Parsippany, N.J.-based tax preparation chain in 2014 that included the appointment of a new CEO.
Nonprofit Veteran Hollrah Joins Intacct

Kent Hollrah, a veteran of the nonprofit software market, has joined Intacct to lead its not-for-profit operations. Hollrah had been president of Orange Leap, which makes fundraising software for nonprofits. His new position was not formally announced. However, he discussed his role during company's Intacct Advantage conference in Orlando, Fla., last week.

CPA firms had modest increases in revenue last year, accompanied by a stable or brightening profit picture, according to findings of the National Management of an Accounting Practice Survey. Increases were recorded for 2013 in every firm segment, form those with less than $200,000 in annual revenue to those with more than $10 million.

Women made up a slightly larger share of partners at CPA firms last year than they did the previous year, but there's still room for improvement, according to industry consultant Marc Rosenberg.
The latest Rosenberg Survey, set to be published in mid-December, found that 16.4 percent of partners at the nearly 400 accounting firms surveyed were female, Rosenberg said in an interview.
