One option is to take on the role of "broker of services" – someone who advises clients and occasionally puts them in touch with other professionals in order to make sure all of the clients' needs are met.

The Rainmaker Companies, which provide consulting and training resources for the accounting profession, have named J. Daniel Brooks as CEO. He replaces Troy Waugh, who has stepped aside from day-to-day duties after 23 years as CEO of the business he founded.

CCH has named Shari Dodgen, the former publisher of the CPA Technology Advisor, as director of strategic relationships. Her responsibilities include developing strategic relationships with professional associations and growing accounting industry partnerships.

Rich Walker, who has been highly visible in the accounting community, is retiring this month after 15 years at Intuit. Walker has been active in building programs for accountants and bookkeepers while at the tax and accounting software company.
